Welcome to This Written Refuge, a place for me to put all the things I write when I want to feel better. If you’re here to follow me on this journey, I’m really really grateful. I have a feeling that many of my thoughts will often be jumbled and scattered, but bear with me. I hope that my writing will improve and I will eventually write something that someone somewhere will want to read.

In addition to self-medication, I write because there have been too many good things in my life that I don’t want to forget, and many more good things are coming, so I’m going to start writing all of them down. I’ll probably talk about other things, like religion, politics, books, music, pop culture, travel, etc. I’m not narcissistic enough to think that most people care at all about my opinions on these topics, but being heard isn’t really my point. I want to be able express my opinions through writing in a way that is both compelling and genuine, both now and during the rest of my life.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I want to be a better writer. So if you’re sticking around to read what I have to say, in some ways you might just be, for lack of a better term, collateral damage.

If you’re still reading by this point, I just want to say that I’m impressed. (And still grateful.) So here’s an idea of what you can expect from me on my blog:

  1. Updates of my life in Boston
  2. Pictures and captions of recent travel adventures
  3. My opinions on current events, politics, religion, and the like
  4. Book reviews/recommendations
  5. Fictional short stories, memoir essays, and possibly (though highly unlikely) poetry

Writing has always been important to my mental wellbeing, even if I have occasionally been too much in my own head to realize that. I have a unique opportunity to start over entirely and I’m going to capitalize on that. I have already begun creating myself as the heroine I want to be, in the story I want to read. I will continue to write my way through this next round of experiences. Hopefully I end this chapter having had many adventures filled with self-discovery, self-improvement, and self-love as the last.

If you’re taking this journey with me, THANK YOU, again. And if you’d like to keep up on my blog via email, please follow the link on the right!
