comfort zone

You held me so well
Like a pool cushions water,
Like glass carries light

You helped me to fly
Like wind beneath feathers,
Like the moon in the night

With you, I was safe
I built walls up
Only let you in
It was certainty
Absolute, resolute
Until the door crept open
And you snuck out
Until the walls you left
Were now my cage

I found I could not fly
Without your air, your light

I found I would spend much of myself
Trying to get off the ground

For I learned I would fly the world round
If it meant I could fold myself into you again
